Newcastle star Bruno Guimaraes has opened up on a chat he had with Pep Guardiola amid transfer links with Manchester City.

The Brazilian was heavily linked with a move to the English champions this summer despite signing a new five-year contract at Newcastle last season. The new deal had a £100 million ($128m) release clause which could have been activated until June 2024, however, no club, including the Cityzens, decided to go after Guimaraes.

Since the start of the 2024-25 campaign, Guimaraes has featured in 14 matches across all competitions for the Magpies and is currently serving as the club captain. He has now opened up about his stature at St. James' Park while revealing details of his chat with City boss Guardiola.
WHAT BRUNO GUIMARAES SAID
Speaking to , the midfielder said: "I believe that at my club I am an idol and I have a lot of respect. I am the captain of Newcastle and it is something that if you had asked me three years ago, my biggest dream would have been to play in the Premier League. Playing, being an idol, being captain is something wonderful. I really like Newcastle.
"Of course, having Manchester City’s suggestions shows that I am at a high level, but it was nothing more than suggestions. I know that Guardiola likes my football, it is normal to have great coaches who admire your football. We have spoken once, I praised his work, he praised my work, but it was nothing more than that."
