Despite his monumental contributions, Mbappe's exit from PSG was anything but smooth. PSG, eager to secure a transfer fee, even excluded him from their pre-season tour of Japan and South Korea during the summer of 2023. And in February, he announced his decision to leave on a free transfer, a move that led to reduced game time in his final months at the club. Disputes over a €55 million bonus further exacerbated the divide.
