Marseille suffered their fourth defeat in their last five Ligue 1 matches last weekend as they went down 3-0 against AS Monaco. The humiliating defeat saw the club go down to third position on the league table. With only three clubs guaranteed to qualify for the Champions League next season from France, De Zerbi's side are running the risk of missing out on a European slot as they enjoy a slender one-point lead over fourth-placed Lyon.

De Zerbi has faced criticism for the team's sudden dip in form and is now under extreme pressure as the management wants them to battle for Champions League qualification. According to , the Italian coach is reportedly considering a multi-week training camp away from their La Commanderie training ground and could relocate the team to Italy to retain the player's focus until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.
